Bael sharbat a summer cooling drink made from bael fruit also known as bengal quince or stone apple or wood apple.
In appearance, the bael fruit is bulky with a tough outer while on the inside it contains bright yellow flesh with numerous seeds. So while making the juice, the ripe pulp is squeezed and strained to remove the seeds.
Its pulp is used to make an extremely tasty and refreshing summer cooler drink. Bael ka sharbat provides protection against the scorching heat of summers and helps in fighting against other gastric problems. It also helps control bad cholestrol and it’s good for heart and can cure respiratory problems. Bael fruits are a power punch of various nutrients like beta-carotene, protein, riboflavin and vitamin C. It is loaded with vitamin B1 and B2, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, carotene and possesses good amounts of minerals like calcium, potassium, fiber and good fats.
Ingredients for Bael Sharbat
Ripe Bael or Wood apple – 1 medium size
Honey / Maple syrup – 2 table spoon (or you can also add jaggery powder)
Chaat Masala Powder – ½ tsp
½ tsp roasted cumin seeds powder
2 tbsp lemon juice
Water – 3 glasses
Black Salt – as required
Ice Cubes – as per requirement (optional)
Procedure for making Bel Sharbat
Wash the bael or wood apple nicely with water.
Then break the bael or wood apple. Open and scrape out the entire pulp.
Soak the pulp in ice-cold water for 1 hour. You can also soak and keep in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
After 1 hour take out the container in which the bael or wood apple pulp is soaked.
Start mashing the pulp in the water.
Then using a strainer, strain the mashed mixture in parts. Also overall add about ½ to ¾ cup water while straining.
With a spoon, stir so that the mixture is strained well.
Once the mixture is strained, then add honey or maple syrup and stir to mix it in the sharbat.
Now add a little salt, roasted cumin seeds powder, lemon juice and chaat masala powder to it. Mix well again.
Now pour this sharbat in serving glasses and add ice cubes if required.
Sprinkle some chaat masala powder or roasted cumin seeds powder. The chilled and refreshing bel sharbat is ready to be served.
