Amla (Gooseberry) candy can be made very easily at home. Amla is a powerhouse of vitamin C, thus making it an amazing immune booster. It is also loaded with Vitamin A, polyphenols, alkaloids and flavonoids. It also improves the liver function, boosts vitality and provides energy.
This amla candy is delicious, has a very tangy taste and healthy. It is a candy treat that is sure to satisfy any craving. The candy can be made using amla, jaggery, and some spices and then coated in sugar. I have used jaggery in this recipe, as it is one of the healthier options as sweetener. You can use any other sweetener.
1/2 kg Amla
400 gm Jaggery
1 tbsp Black Pepper
1 tbsp Cumin Seeds Powder
1 tbsp ginger powder
1 tbsp Carom Seeds Powder
1 tbsp Black Salt
100 gm Powdered Sugar
Steps to make Amla candy
Microwave cleaned amla for about 10 minutes so that they become soft. You can also use pressure cooker to give steam.
After that, take out the seeds from amla and grind the amla in a mixer.
Put the amla in hot pan and stir continuously for about 15-20 minutes until they become golden brown.
Then add jaggery and again stir continuously for about 20 minutes.
After that add black pepper powder, black salt, cumin seeds powder, ginger powder and carom seeds powder and mix them well.
Turn off the flame.
Put the mixture in a bowl and allow it to cool in a freezer for about 15 minutes.
After that make small round candies from this mixture. Apply some oil on your palm while making candies so that it won’t stick to your hand.
Roll the candies in powdered sugar for coating. Store the candies in a airtight container in the fridge.
Your sweet and sour candies are ready to eat.
