Coconut Chutney is made from fresh coconut and flavored with chilies, tamarind and a tempering of fresh curry leaves.
This coconut chutney recipe is much healthier than any other readymade dips or spreads that you can find in the market.

To give this chutney a nice more creamy touch, you can also add some fresh cream. This will add a nice smooth texture. This one is optional. Here, I haven’t used cream in this recipe.

Ingredients of coconut chutney
1 cup grated coconut
2 small green chilli
Pinch of red chilli powder
2 inch piece of ginger, chopped
1 tsp tamarind pulp
Pinch of salt
For Tempering :
1/2 tablespoon oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 tablespoon split black gram
4 curry leaves
How to make coconut chutney
To make this delicious Coconut Chutney recipe, grind grated coconut, green chillies, ginger, tamarind, red chilli powder and salt in a blender. Make sure that its consistency is thick and not too thin.
For the tempering, heat oil in a small pan over medium flame. Once the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds, split black gram dal and curry leaves.
Once they start to splutter, bring them off the flame and pour over the chutney.
Mix the ingredients properly before serving. If you feel that the chutney is too thick, you may add little water, if necessary.
Pour the finished spread into air tight glass containers and store in a cool, dry place. This chutney lasts for 5-7 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
