Fenugreek seeds (methi) Ladoo are a traditional recipe which is more of an Ayurvedic medicine than a sweetmeat. Methi ladoo is a healthy replacement to those sugar loaded energy bars which have all the potential to adversely affect your overall health and weight. Apart from this, it also provides sufficient energy to the body so that you can kick start your day on an energetic note.
This can be given to the mothers after they deliver the baby. It is good for lactating women as it has been found that regular consumption of fenugreek seeds by the woman increases milk production.
Fenugreek seeds are considered very healthy and used as a remedy for many ailments – runny nose, cough, sneezing, sore throat, tiredness, rashes, pains, diabetes etc.
Fenugreek seeds can also be used to cure constipation as it is a powerful expectorant. It can also be used to break up respiratory congestion. Whereas, ghee during winters can help you to stay warm and healthy in cold weather. But, you can also use olive oil or any other oil in this recipe.
Jaggery is also a superfood which you must consume during the winter season, and also a healthier alternative for the refined sugar.
This recipe is also used as a cure for back or joint pains during winters. Fenugreek seeds ladoo is a rich reservoir of medicinal properties and hence, it should be included in your daily diet during the winter months. In this freezing cold, prepare fenugreek seeds balls or ladoo and give them to the elders or your kids at home for better nutrition.
1 Cup whole wheat flour
4 Tbsp Methi (fenugreek seeds)
6 tbsp ghee
2 tsp fennel seeds (saunf)
1 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder
1 tsp dried ginger powder
3/4 Cup jaggery powder, as sweetener
How to Make Methi / Fenugreek seeds Ladoo
In a heavy kadahi, melt the ghee and add the whole wheat flour.
Stir fry over the low heat, for about 30 minutes so that the flour is cooked properly. When done, it gets a pasty look and the colour should be a light brown.
Turn off the heat and leave the mixture to cool completely.
In another pan, dry roast the fenugreek seeds, fennel seeds and grind them into fine powder.
When the flour mixture is completely cooled, add the jaggery, grounded ingredients, cardamom powder and the dried ginger powder, nuts and mix it very well.
Then roll it into balls with your ghee greased hands.
Store it in the air tight container and these will last for about 1 month.
