Ingredients For the Recipe
5 – Bitter gourd
2 tbsp lemon juice
Salt to taste
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp red chili powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin powder
2 tablespoon olive oil or coconut oil
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
How to make this bitter gourd recipe
Chop the bitter-gourd (karela) into thin round pieces. De-seed the bitter-gourd pieces and keep aside in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoon of lemon juice, pinch of turmeric powder and salt. Mix all the ingredients and set the bitter-gourd pieces aside for 15 minutes. It will help you in removing the bitterness from bitter gourd.
Now, wash the bitter-gourd pieces under running water. Squeeze the excess water from the pieces and keep aside in a bowl.
Heat oil in a medium-sized pan. Add the chopped onion, bitter-gourd pieces, salt and saute for 1-2 minutes. Cover the pan with a lid and stir occasionally.
Cook till the bitter-gourd is crisp and brownish in color. Add chili powder, cumin powder and mix well.
Add chopped coriander leaves and cover it for few minutes. Once the bitter-gourd is cooked, turn off the flame and serve hot. Pair this delightful dish with rice or chapati at lunch or dinner and enjoy it with Healthy Snakegourd Raita.
