Makhana is the go-to snacks of fitness and health freaks nowadays. Not only is it low in fat but it is also quite filling and nutritious at the same time.
Makhana or lotus seed or fox nuts are gaining popularity as the new superfood. You can eat them roasted or raw, you can also make easy and interesting recipes with them in no time! I have got 3 interesting makhana recipes for you, which will be ready in just 5 minutes and are super easy to prepare. You can also carry this snack to your office as a tea time snack.

1. Makhanas or Foxnuts Trail mix
2 and 1/2 tbsp ghee
2 cups of fox nuts (makhanas)
½ cup almonds
¼ cup cashews
¼ cup peanuts
¼ cup raisins
½ tsp dry chilli powder or paprika
Salt to taste
Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a large pan. Allow it to melt completely.
Add the fox nuts to the pan and roast on low flame till they are crunchy.
Remove from the pan and keep aside.
To the same pan, add the remaining 1 tsp of ghee. Once it melts add the almonds, cashews, peanuts, and raisins. Roast them lightly (till toasty).
Add back the foxnuts and give it a good mix. Add the paprika, and salt and mix well.
Serve and enjoy.
2. Roasted Makhana
Makhana: 200 grams
5-6 curry leaves
Red chilli powder – 1/4 tsp
Roasted cumin seeds powder – 1/2 tsp
Chaat Masala: 1 tablespoon
Olive oil : 1 tablespoon
Salt to taste
How to Make
Take a pan and bring it on medium heat. Place olive oil on it and add curry leaves, then add makhanas, spices, salt and roast them till they turn slightly brown in hue. Take them out in a bowl and sprinkle some chaat masala over them.
3. Sweet Foxnut or makhanas
2 cups Makhanas or lotus seed or foxnuts
3/4 cup Jaggery
1/2 cup Desiccated unsweetend Coconut
1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
Heat oil in a pan and add makhanas. On medium heat, cook until they become light brown in color and crispy. If makhane are not brittle and crispy they will turn soggy as soon as we add jaggery to it.
In another pan, combine jaggery with 3 tablespoon of water and boil until thick.
Add coconut. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Pour jaggery over foxnuts/ makhans and take it of the flame.
Keep stirring continuously and jaggery will stick onto the makhane/fox nuts.
Allow it to cool and serve.
4. Makhana Bhel
Makhana: 100 grams
Puffed Rice (Murmura) : 50 grams
Curry Leaf Powder : 1 tablespoon
Tomatoes, chopped – 3 tbsp
Cucumber, chopped – 4 Tbsp
1/2 tsp green chilli
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
How to make
All you need to do is mix together all the ingredients in a wide bowl and give a nice stir so that makhana and puffed rice get evenly coated with the spice.
5. Makhana Paneer Chaat
Makhana 200 grams
Paneer 50 grams
salt to taste
Black Pepper Powder 1 tsp
Lemon 1 slice (optional)
Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp
How To Make
Take a bowl and add makhanas. With the help of a grater, grate the paneer over the makhanas and season it with salt, coriander leaves, black pepper powder to add in some flavour. Additionally, you may also add lemon juice to it.
