Semolina Balls are made with semolina, flavoured with ginger and green chilli. It is prepared by steaming the spiced semolina based balls. It is an easy and quick recipe, providing all the necessary nutrients. It is a delicious breakfast option and can be a good tiffin snack or tea time snack.
Semolina or sooji is rich in protein, B vitamins, including folate and thiamine, which provide energy and support brain function. Ingredients for Semolina Balls Recipe
For Semolina balls
Semolina (roasted) – 2 Cup
½ tsp grated ginger
Water – 3 Cup
Salt – as per taste
1/4 cup coconut
Green chilli – 1 Tablespoon (optional)
½ tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Chana dal/Bengal gram
1 tsp Urad dal/Black Gram
½ tsp Mustard seeds
5 cashews, in halves
1 Dried whole chilli
Pinch of turmeric powder
1 Tablespoon coriander leaves
6-7 curry leaves
1 tbsp Oil
Take a pan, add 3 cups of water and heat it. Add salt, grated ginger, coconut, chopped green chilli to the water. Bring it to one boil.
Add 2 cups of semolina, keeping the flame on low start adding roasted semolina (rava) slowly, stirring continuously. Cover and cook for 3 minutes or until the rava turns soft and fluffy. Transfer to the mixing bowl and knead the dough for 5 minutes and prepare small balls.
Now, take a lemon size ball of the dough and roll it to smooth to make round balls. Steam these balls in a steamer for 10-12 Minutes on a medium flame. Once done, transfer to the plate.
For tempering, take a kadai, add oil and heat it.
Add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal, turmeric powder. Saute it until it turns light brown. Then add curry leaves and slit dried chillies. Saute it.
Now, add the steamed semolina balls. Saute it for a minute. Then switch off the gas.
Transfer to the serving plate. Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves.
