Idli is one of the healthiest breakfast recipe of Indian Cuisine and staple food of South Indians. It is prepared by steaming the batter and its preparation doesn’t require use of excess oil apart from greasing the idli moulds in which batter is poured to give it a round disc shape.
This nutritious Oats Idli is an easy dish to prepare. This idli has healthy oats which is best for those who are health conscious. A great blend of taste and health. For Oats Powder
2 Cups Oats
For Fried Mixture
1 Tbsp Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
1 tsp Chana Dal (splitted Chickpeas– Split Bengal gram, split brown chickpeas) – optional
1 tsp Urad Dal (Black Gram Lentils, Split and skinned) – optional
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 Green Chilli
1 Cup Carrot, finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped green beans
1/2 cup peas
1/2 Cup Coriander Leaves, chopped
A pinch of Salt
For Idli Batter
1/2 tsp Salt
2 Cups yoghurt
A pinch of fruit Salt
How to Make Oats Idli
Take 2 cups of oats in a pan and dry roast them for about 5 minutes until golden brown. Let it cool down and then grind to make it a powder, without adding any water.
In a broad pan heat oil over medium flame.
Add mustard seeds to it and let them crackle.
Now add chana and urad Dal, turmeric powder and green chillis. Mix well and sauté until light brown.
Add the chopped carrots, beans, peas and coriander leaves. Combine all the ingredients thoroughly along with a pinch of salt and cook for a minute or two.
Let the mixture cool down for few minutes before adding into idli batter.
Transfer the prepared oats powder to a large bowl.
In this add fruit salt and the fried mixture. Combine well.
Now add the required quantity of yoghurt and stir thoroughly in one direction adding a pinch of salt to it.
Prepare a medium thick batter and leave it covered for few minutes.
In the meantime bring the water in the steamer to a boil.
Now grease the idli moulds with oil using a brush.
Pour the prepared oats idli batter in each mould and put it in the steamer.
Cover with a lid and steam for about 15 minutes over medium flame.
After 10-15 minutes check whether the idlis are properly cooked or not. To check the idli, put a toothpick into one and when it comes out clean, they are ready.
