Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common cause of ovarian dysfunction in women with anovulation.
The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in women with PCOS is about 67-85 per cent, with serum concentrations of 25(OH)D <20 ng/ ml3.
Low 25(OH)D levels may intensify the symptoms of PCOS, including insulin resistance, ovulatory and menstrual irregularities, lower pregnancy success rate, hirsutism, hyperandrogenism, obesity and elevated cardiovascular disease risk.
PCOS is associated with low-grade inflammation. This chronic inflammation leads to weight gain (particularly around the abdomen) and insulin resistance.
PCOS also leads to Dysbiosis, which is an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the gut. The chronic inflammation causes the gut to allow unhelpful substances into the body (leaky gut) which leads to more inflammation and food sensitivities. So, it’s a cycle that ultimately leads to insulin resistance and worsening of PCOS.
Women with PCOS also have an increased risk of obesity & irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which are both linked to increased permeability of intestinal lining, commonly referred to as Leaky Gut Syndrome.
So, taking probiotics or eating foods which are rich in probiotics will help you to improve overall health condition.
