During a binge, you may eat even when you’re not hungry and continue eating long after you’re full.
Ways To Train Your Brain To Stop Binge Eating
1) Stop Dieting
Under eating is not the solution to your binge eating. Not only can fad diets often be very unhealthy, but studies show that these overly restrictive eating methods may also trigger episodes of binge eating.
One study in 496 adolescent girls found that fasting was associated with a higher risk of binge eating (1)
2) Avoid skipping meals
Skipping meals can contribute to cravings and increase your risk of overeating, which in turn causes weight gain.
3) Eat protein
Protein takes longer time to digest than carbs, meaning it’ll keep you fuller for a longer time.
4) Know your emotions
Being aware of your emotions and how they influence your eating choices, is a great way to check to overeat.
The brain sends signals to your body and craves certain comfort foods especially when you are feeling a little down. Knowing how your emotions affect your food cravings, may help you to stop overindulging yourself on the behest of such cravings.
5) Stop eating mindlessly, instead start practicing mindful eating
Don’t eat out of the packaging boxes.
6) Relieve stress
Find other ways to handle tough times without food. Start practicing meditation, deep breathing exercises or you can also read a good book, this may help you to combat stress, and may enhance your inner peace and positivity.
