Smoothie is a good idea for breakfast. But sometimes, some people tend to have only fruits in their smoothie as breakfast. But it is not a healthy way. They often don’t like to add good and healthy fats to their plate. They often have a perception that if they eat fats they will gain weight. So they ignore the fat part and start adding greens and fruits in their daily routine. They think that this practice will increase the metabolic rate and will fasten the weight loss process! But it’s not true!
Breakfast must supply all the vital nutrients to your body in order to get energy and this, in turn, will make you energetic.
Golden Rules To Be Remembered
My formula for designing a balanced smoothie is same as my formula for designing a balanced meal.
You need to remember these golden rules while making your favorite smoothie in your breakfast.
Protein + Greens + Good fat + Fibers + carbs
Always include the combination of good quality fat, complex carbs, fibers, protein, vitamins and minerals in your smoothie.

1) Always add good quality fats
Always include good fats, in the form of avocado, coconuts, nuts or seeds, peanut butter or almond butter in your smoothie. It will be beneficial for you because good fats always help in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like – A, D, E, K. Not only this, it will also accelerate your weight loss, by boosting your metabolic rate. It is good for glowing skin, hair, heart, liver. Apart from that, it helps to lower the LDL level (bad cholesterol) and increases HDL cholesterol (a good one), which can protect from heart diseases. Coconut is a great source of MCTs (Medium chain triglycerides). MCTs are also great for your heart.
So, good quality fats are really great for your health and should be included in your daily diet.
2) Include fruits
Add fruits in your smoothie. So that you can get all the vital vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibers. Antioxidants will help your body to fight against all the free radicals and this will prevent oxidative damage. It will also help to combat the ageing process and can help to prevent the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, blemishes etc.
3) Add greens
Add green veggies in the smoothie, to detoxify your system. It will give all the essential vitamins minerals to your body. You can add spinach, kale or zucchini and even the frozen cauliflower or broccoli. It doesn’t change the taste, but it will add tons of nutrients and fibres in your smoothie.
4) Include complex carbs
You can also add complex carbs in the form of oats in your smoothie. The beta-glucan in oats will help you in lowering the cholesterol levels and thus protecting you from heart diseases. It contains fibres which will help you to stay fuller for a longer time. This, it will also promote weight loss.
5) Add nuts /seeds
Don’t forget to add nuts or seeds in your favorite smoothie. You will get omega 3, calcium, magnesium, protein, vitamins. This will give you a healthy heart, glowing skin and better immunity!
